Visakhapatnam CPI national general secretary D. Rajaon Friday came down heavily on the BJP-led NDA Coalition at the Centre for its ill-conceived economic policies mainly on disinvestment of public sector enterprises including Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited-the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
Calling on the striking employees of the steel plant at Kurmannapalem Junction here, he said that the country is facing a crisis due to the BJP's economic policies which include privatisation of airports and ports compromising national security.
Raja said the steel industry is now looking to be taken over by Ambanis and other corporates close to the corridors of power on a golden platter. He said the Visakha Ukku Protection Committee is spearheading the agitation successfully. The relay hunger strike entered its 239th day on Friday.
He said that the CPI as a party will support the public sector steel units protection movement in every possible manner. "We want to unite as all political parties and trade unions to make the anti-disinvestment agitation successful," he stated.
Among others, corporator A.J. Stalin, AITUC leader D. Adinarayana, INTUC leader Mantri Rajasekhar and CITU leader J.Ayodhya Ram were present.
